October Speaker

Carolyn Sczepanski

Carolyn Sczepanski was raised in southern California and graduated from Cal Poly with a Master’s Degree in Business Management. Carolyn began her career in the Energy Industry in 1975 at a very conservative company where she was the first female to share an office with a male who happened to be a geologist – the rest is history.

A company merger relocated her to Texas where she met her future husband Bill while standing in line at the movies (ET – the Extra -Terrestrial).

Since transferring to Dallas, Carolyn has held various positions in the industry and worked for several companies including Santa Fe Minerals, Oryx Energy, and Kerr-McGee. None of these exists any longer and Carolyn continues to claim it is not her fault.

Since 2001, she has been an Audit Manager with AMS-PAR; where the goal is to help other energy industry companies recover lost profits through comprehensive reviews that enhance the bottom line of client companies.  AMS-PAR performs energy related audits throughout the United States and the world. Carolyn would like to claim the company slogan is: “Be Audit You Can Be” but, the actual slogan is “A higher level of assurance.”

Carolyn is a member of several organizations. On the professional side, she has history of leadership in various professional energy organizations:

  • Desk and Derrick Club of Dallas - member since 1981 and President in 1990 plus held various positions at the ADDC and Regional level
  • COPAS of Dallas: member since 1998 and President in 2005 – 2006.
  • Texas Energy Council – member since 2001 and President 2011 – 2013
  • COPAS National: Board of Directors 2017 – current and Audit Chairman 2015 - 2016

On the personal side, Carolyn and her family created the Cain Sczepanski Foundation in Special Education in memory of their awesome son Cain who died in 2011. The Foundation annually recognizes special education teachers who demonstrate classroom excellence with a check for $500 and an award of excellence. Nine were awarded this past May 2018. Carolyn currently serves as the Treasurer for Flower Mound Special Olympics and coaches bocce for the organization. Each summer since 2012, she and her husband have led and facilitated a faith-based grief recovery support classes called GriefShare to help others dealing with the loss of a loved one.

And if that is not enough, her daughter, Cara, is getting married in November 2018 and that takes more time than all the other activities!
